Hello. This is Steve. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I have been living in Taiwan for more than ten years and I started working here at ACES in 2002. I have been teaching English since I got here. Before starting work at ACES, I had worked at another English school and at a kindergarten teaching young children. I’m married with one child. I grew up in Virginia in the United States. I also went to elementary school, middle school, and high school in Virginia. After high school, my family moved to Canada, and I went to university in Ontario. Soon after graduating from university, I came to Taiwan and have enjoyed living here since then.

Jeff Kuhel
I have over 40 years of experience teaching English as a second language to all ages from true beginners to near native speakers on four continents. I have lived in Taiwan since 1990. From 2005 to 2009, I worked at Caves Books Publishing. Among dozens of titles, I authored a popular series of books teaching the core elements of the GEPT test. For the last 15 years, I have been working at ACES helping to design and teach the Advanced Program. As a result, I am well acquainted with the common mistakes associated with native Mandarin speakers learning English as a foreign language. More recently, I have focused on Taiwan’s High School Entrance Exam, TOEFL as well as both the English Advanced Placement Test and SAT Exams for high school students seeking to study at American universities. I am cheerfully married to a beautiful oncology research scientist at National Taiwan University and have a 16-year-old daughter who is pretty cool and makes me laugh. Taiwan is my home.

Robert Schultz
Hello everyone, my name is Robert. I was born and raised on a horse farm in a small town just outside of Seattle, Washington. I spent most of my free time climbing mountains, skiing, and playing baseball. I attended college in Seattle where I received a degree in history with a focus on the history of Asia. After college, I spent several years working and living in multiple countries before returning to Seattle where I designed and started a leadership education program for kids and young adults. Education and language have always been my passions, so I decided to move to Taiwan to continue down this path.
After moving to Taiwan in 2020, Taiwan quickly became my home. Before moving to Taipei to start my career at ACES, I lived and taught English in Zhongli where I was the foreign manager and trainer at my branch. Aside from teaching, I am a huge fan of all outdoor activities. Living and teaching in Taiwan has afforded me the opportunity to be able to explore all of my passions and interests and I am very happy to call Taiwan my home. I am looking forward to seeing you in the classroom, and if not in class, then perhaps on the baseball diamond or out in the backcountry!

Theodore Adams Leshnick
My name’s Ted from the sunny state of California. I called LA my home for the bulk of my first 23 years on Earth. After graduating from UCLA with a degree in history, my childhood friend invited me to Taiwan. The move to Asia sounded dramatic, but my friend also ensured me that the people here were nice, the vegetarian food was abundant and the weather was pleasant year round. Everything turned out to be true, even the weather, which is hot and humid and great help while doing my daily yoga practice. It’s been great working for the past several years as an English teacher in a place where learning a foreign language is so highly valued.
Through my travels in South East Asia and India, I’ve seen how Taiwan has pulled ahead in this endeavor. In just a few generations of serious English education, Taiwan has been able to use language as a tool to connect with people beyond its own borders. Moreover, the Internet opens up ESL learners to a wealth of anglophone information and culture.
I believe that learning a language is a constant endeavor, even if it’s your mother tongue. In my free time, I also enjoy reading and writing fiction to keep enriching and expressing my own scope of English. With much enthusiasm and energy, I’m excited to provide ESL teaching at the highest standard a language institute in Taiwan can offer.
See you in class!
